Vertimowing (Dethatching or Scarifying)
Vertimowing (dethatching or scarifying) is the process involved to remove excessive thatch that collects near the surface of your lawn. Thatch is a problem because when the brownish thatch layer becomes too thick it can prevent up to 75% of water that is applied reaching the lawn’s root system that a massive waste of water and a thatched lawn will hinder air and nutrients from reaching the root and will eventually suffocate the grass causing it to go spongy and scalp and get thicker over time. Thatched lawns will also suffer from having a scarred appearance when mowed (scalping)
Ideally vertimowing is done in spring and summer, i.e. from the beginning of September to the end of February, as the weather at this time causes the least amount of stress on the lawn and it will recover quickly. Water is paramount within the recovery process. Call us today if it sounds like your lawn is suffering with thatch build up and you want to get it back on track
